Members of Parliament: Unsympathetic With the Colonies
Soame Jenyns and Charles James Fox were members of Parliament who were not at all sensitive to the objections of colonists. They believed that the colonists had brought the Acts upon themselves and what Parliament was doing was completely fair.
Soame Jenyns
"No tax can be imposed exactly equal on all" (Davis).
--Soame Jenyns
-- If people in Britain were taxed with barely
any representation in Parliament, the
same should be allowed to happen to
the colonies.
Charles James Fox
"[T]here is not an American but who must reject and resist the principle and right of our taxing them" (Davis).
--Charles James Fox
--Thought colonists should be taxed, for
they should be punished for the destruction
of British property
